BMW Motorrad had launched the 2020 G 310 GS in India at Rs 2.85 lakh. This is a big drop from the price of the BS4 motorcycle that retailed at Rs 3.49 lakh.

BMW has updated the G 310 GS with a set of new colours that are quite striking to look at. The BMW G 310 GS ‘Style Rallye’, for instance, features a black base colour with contrasting red and blue paintwork. Also, one can notice the bigger ‘GS’ logo on the fuel tank and the Rallye sticker. Another notable visual change is that the frame is now painted red, unlike the older bike that had a black-coloured frame.
In addition to the ‘Style Rallye’ paint job, BMW is also offering the G 310 GS in the special ’40 years GS’ paint scheme that commemorates four decades of the BMW GS and is based on the BMW R 100 GS.
Barring the paint schemes, the rest of the body panels, be it the tank, BMW GS-correct beak and wheels are exactly like on the BS4 G 310 GS.
In terms of equipment, BMW has updated the motorcycle with an LED headlamp that has an integrated DRL. The turn indicators and tail lamps are LEDs too. The motorcycle also gets new adjustable levers, for an ergonomic fit.
Sadly, BMW hasn’t equipped the G 310 GS with a TFT display, like the one on its platform cousin, the TVS Apache RR 310. Instead, it continues to use an LCD, full-digital display.
2020 G 310 GS Engine
The G 310 GS is powered by a fuel-injected, BS6 compliant, 313cc, liquid-cooled, single cylinder engine, mated to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. It develops 34 hp at 9,500rpm and 28 Nm at 7,500rpm which is as much as what the BS4 engine produced. A notable addition is the new ride-by-wire system.
In terms of performance, BMW claims the motorcycle can accelerate from 0-50kph in 2.5s and can hit a top speed of 143kph.
The BMW adverts, in the run up to the launch of the BS6 G 310 GS, spoke of improved engine refinement. Vibrations, in fact, were the Achilles heel of the BS4 motorcycle and whether or not that is the case with the BS6 engine is something we will determine after riding the motorcycle.
2020 G 310 GS chassis
The G 310 GS employs the same steel trellis frame, USD telescopic fork and mono shock as on the BS4 motorcycle. As far as the tyres are concerned we noticed that strangely, the G 310 GS in the studio shots is equipped with road-biased Pirelli Rosso II tyres. However, the bike used to be shipped with Metzeler Tourance tyres and we think that will be the case with the 2020 G 310 GS’ too. We shall confirm this once we get our hands on the test motorcycles.
2020 G 310 GS warranty and availability
The G 310 GS is available with a standard 3 years, unlimited kilometres warranty. Customers can extend the warranty by two years, by paying Rs. 16,250. The first 500 customers can avail this extended warranty at a special price of Rs. 5,499.
The G 310 GS is available across all BMW Motorrad showrooms in India. Bookings have already begun and customers can visit any BMW Motorrad dealership or fill up an enquiry form on the BMW website to make their booking. The company says deliveries will be done on a first-come-first-serve basis.
