Maruti Suzuki has taken proactive steps to reduce vehicle damage caused by Amphan cyclone

  • Maruti Suzuki has taken three proactive measures to help reduce the damage caused to customers’ vehicles by the cyclone
  • The measures were implemented in West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand
  • 219 Maruti Suzuki service centres have resumed operations in the affected regions

The Amphan cyclone is one of the fiercest of its kind to have hit the Bay of Bengal, affecting cities in India and Bangladesh. In an effort to reduce the damage done to its vehicles by the cyclone and aid any vehicles that have been damaged, Maruti Suzuki initiated a few proactive measures. These measures were instituted in West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, which are some of the regions impacted by the cyclone.

What were these measures?

Contacting customers via SMS – Maruti Suzuki got in touch with over 3 lakh customers via SMS in the above mentioned regions on May 20, 2020, prior to the cyclone making landfall. This was done to inform the customers of preventive measures to minimise possible damage. 

Setting up 24X7 emergency contacts – The carmaker utilised its call centres to provide its customers a 24×7 facility to report any vehicle-related emergencies. Furthermore, the company’s officials were assigned a district each, with their numbers being circulated with customers for additional assistance. Maruti Suzuki also tied up with seven major towing agencies in the impacted regions to aid stranded vehicles. Its service centres resumed operations soon after the cyclone subsided. 

Courtesy vehicle service – In order to help its customers Maruti Suzuki will provide loaner cars and has tied-up with cab services to provide transportation to its customers.

Currently, of the total 425 Maruti Suzuki service centres across the affected regions, 219 facilities are now operational – 84 workshops in West Bengal, 58 in Odisha, 72 in Andhra Pradesh and 5 in Jharkhand. All these facilities will be following the brand’s new standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
