AUOB blasts fake account for tweets about Black Lives Matter protest

ALL Under One Banner has condemned a fake account which suggested the organisation wanted to turn a Black Lives Matter protest into a pro- independence event.

A Twitter profile called @AUOBGlasgow, which has since changed its privacy settings, encouraged Scots to turn the anti-racism protests into “an indy family reunion”.

Activists are expected to gather in Glasgow Green tomorrow in response to the death of George Floyd. The fake account falsely claimed Nicola Sturgeon had given Scots permission to break lockdown rules to attend the gathering.

It posted: “We’re making the #BLM protest an indy family reunion – bring your freedom flags and wear a Saltire mask.

“We’re breaking lockdown with Nic’s blessing so be there!”

AUOB quickly made clear that the account was not associated with their organisation.

A post read: “This account has absolutely no connection to All Under One Banner. The one and only official Twitter account that our organisation uses is @AUOBALBA – all other accounts trying to hold out as us are fake.”

Nicola Sturgeon has expressed solidarity with Black Lives Matter activists, but urged them to find alternative ways to protest against racism this weekend amid fears demonstration could spread coronavirus.

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf warned earlier that police may “ask people to disperse and, if necessary, they can enforce that request”.
